Robert De Niro has played some of cinema’s most notorious crooks and he’s hoping to add the role of jailed swindler Bernie Madoff to his acting resume, according to a new report.
The Academy Award winning actor is in talks to portray the Ponzi schemer in an upcoming HBO movie, Deadline reported, citing sources familiar with the negotiations.
The film will be based on the book “The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff And The Death Of Trust,” written by New York Times reporter Diana Henriques.
De Niro, 67, is a longtime resident of Manhattan, where Madoff ran his swindle.
