STARR REPORT
Friars fete Sedaka; Bloomy gets smoked
Regis Philbin is reuniting with Kathie Lee Gifford.
OK, so it’s only for one night, but Philbin and Gifford will join the Friars Club tribute to Neil Sedaka, taking place this Monday. Also expected at the tribute are Joy Behar, comedian Stewie Stone, Leslie Gore, Billy Stritch and others.
The Friars Club, of course, is a great New York tradition – as is the annual Inner Circle show, staged by local journalists to lampoon current events and people in the news. This year, Court TV’s Sheila Stainback will play Martha Stewart in the Inner Circle’s annual fundraiser, “What’s He Smoking?,” unfurling April 12 at the New York Hilton. Stainback will sing “When You’re Good to Mama” (from “Chicago”) with special lyrics. Stainback is also the Inner Circle president. The show’s title refers to Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s smoking ban (with WCBS 880 reporter Rich Lamb playing Bloomberg).
Other highlights will include Juliet Papa’s portrayal of Michael Jackson, Gabe Pressman impersonating Sen. Chuck Schumer, Ch. 11’s Mary Murphy playing Betsy Gotbaum and Ernie Anastos in a “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” skit. “We’ll also do something on the French and the Germans and some reality programming takeoffs on ‘Joe Millionaire’ called ‘Mike Billionaire,'” Stainback said.
By a thread: Stars fit charity to a ‘T’
Johnny “Jackass” Knoxville, Kirsten Dunst, Zach Braff (“Scrubs”), Mila Kunis (“That ’70s Show”), Jamie Kennedy (“The Jamie Kennedy Experiment”) and Elisha Cuthbert (“24”) have all designed T-shirts for charity.
The T-shirts will be on sale at the new American Eagle store in Santa Monica, Calif., for which Blender magazine is sponsoring an opening party on April 3 with DJ Danny Masterson (also from “That ’70s Show”).
Meanwhile, Showtime’s series, “Street Time” (Rob Morrow, Scott Cohen and Erika Alexander), is moving its offices from L.A. to New York. The new offices are in the Starrett Lehigh Building (601 West 26th). “Street Time,” which films in Toronto, is about to begin shooting its second season. The show was created by Morrow and Richard Stratton.
Robertson flick has Cannes-do attitude
Kathleen Robertson (“Beverly Hills, 90210,” “girls club”), is teaming with Mark Ruffalo for Independent Film Company’s new movie, “XX/XY,” which opens April 11 in N.Y. and L.A.
The movie is billed as a “coming-of- age story about friends on the threshold of adulthood – and how they breech that uneasy time.” The movie co-stars Maya Stange and David Thornton and was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival.
Last, but not least . . .
James Woods, on today’s “Wayne Brady Show” (10 a.m./ Ch. 7): “It’s great to have different opinions, but I think you’d have to be remiss not to say . . . if you’re an American . . . that Sept. 11 has formed our identity for the future.”
“George Lopez Show” co-star Constance Marie tells the In Style Makeover special issue, on newsstands Tuesday, that her onscreen dream date would be “Brady Bunch” dad Mike Brady – but that, in real life, she would prefer “Matthew McConaughey and Benjamin Bratt.”
“7th Heaven” co-star Adam LaVorgna spotted at Flow, helping Gina Lynn celebrate the DVD release of “8 Mile.”
