‘OPRAH’s Big Give” has its roots in the 2000 movie “Pay It Forward” and its theme of helping others through selflessness.

In “Pay It Forward,” 12-year-old Trevor (Haley Joel Osment) devises a plan to do a good deed for three people – who, in turn, must reciprocate with three other people, creating a helping-each-other chain.

Winfrey borrowed the theme for an episode of “Oprah” called the “Pay It Forward Challenge,” in which audience members were given $1,000 debit cards – and challenged to use the money toward charitable causes.
