Funnyman Steve Harvey may have blown the Miss Universe pageant — but he still had his sense of humor on Thursday as he tweeted a photo of himself chomping a cigar and flashing a peace sign with message, “Merry Easter y’all!”
The “Family Feud” host’s gaffe at the Vegas pageant last Sunday — mistakenly crowning Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez the winner instead of Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach — stoked a firestorm of memes on social media.
“You’re Miss Universe! And you’re Miss Universe! Everyone is Miss Universe!” read one over a photo of Oprah Winfrey laughing.
But the jeers turned to cheers after Harvey’s Christmas Day post on Facebook and Twitter showing him smoking a fat stogie while standing outside what appeared to be his holiday-decorated mansion.
“As if I didn’t already love Steve Harvey enough . . . his caption just made me love him more,” Alyssa Shouse wrote on Twitter.
“The rest of you can meme all you want. Steve Harvey won 2015,” tweeted ESPN’s J.A. Adande.
“@IAmSteveHarvey might have bungled #MissUniverse, but he just won Easter — err, Christmas,” added Angela Morabito.
Harvey’s screw-up — which some speculated was a self-serving publicity stunt — didn’t hurt him with pageant officials either.
Harvey will return as host in 2016, and also inked a multiyear deal with the organization.
