LAS VEGAS — Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler said the band is working on its first album since 2004.

Speaking to Rolling Stone in Las Vegas, Tyler said the band had been at work in Los Angeles for two months and was “almost there.”

“We’re gonna spend another month in L.A.,” he said.

Asked about a release date, Tyler replied, “March, hopefully.”

Tyler joined “American Idol” as a judge in January. In November 2010, Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford said the band would “have to work a little bit around Steven’s television schedule” to record new music.

Aerosmith’s last album, 2004’s “Honkin’ on Bobo,” was a flop with no hit singles. The band was last on the US singles charts in 2001 with “Jaded.”

Tyler released the solo single “(It) Feels So Good” in May.
