THE RED-HOT PLANET
There were no $16 million clubs in Manhattan – until now.
Last Saturday night, Club Mars had its grand opening with some 2,000 guests.
With business and tourism down, this family-style tourist trap has allowed its tunnels and caves to be entered – by the likes of single, young professionals.
At 10 p.m., the restaurant goes through a crazy conversion. Tables are moved, the out-of-towners are shuffled out, bars are stocked and a slamming sound system for three deejays is brought in.
Turning this ordinarily unhip tourists’ magnet into a club was the brainchild of party promoters/Wall Streeters Scott Redler, 29, and Steven Perez, 28.
“It’s not your average nightclub,” says Redler. “Every club looks the same, but this club is in a league of its own. You walk in and people are like ‘Wow.'”
Also, he adds: “People can’t afford to go away on lavish vacations and go to South Beach and L.A. They need something to do that’s local and this is a place where people can escape the reality without getting on a plane.”
Club Mars, 1633 Broadway at 51st Street, every Saturday night from 11 p.m.-5 a.m. Admission is $20.
