THE STARR REPORT
The ‘Inside’ story
Yesterday’s “Inside Edition” reported that former “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” contestant Paul Barbour is a wanted man – for allegedly bilking his ex-employer, Nationwide Insurance, out of $190,000.
“IE” says Barbour was indicted last July. He denies the charges – even as he appears on today’s “Rosie O’Donnell Show” with his two brothers – also “Millionaire” contestants.
Unconventional
Pseudo.com will make history this summer as the first dot.com to get skybox credentials to cover the GOP and Democratic conventions.
Pseudopolitics.com will provide gavel-to-gavel webcast coverage of the GOP convention in Philadelphia (July 31-Aug. 3) and the Democratic convention in L.A. (Aug. 14-17).
Ex-NBC/ABC newsie David Bohrman runs Pseudo.
Raising Kane
Veteran local TV news hounds might remember Larry Kane, who had a short stint at Ch. 7 before heading back to Philadelphia (he’s currently an anchor at KYW-TV).
Now, Larry’s son, Michael Kane, is picking up where his dad left off – but at Ch. 2.
Michael’s role at Ch. 2 will be as producer of the station’s 6 p.m. newscast, anchored by Dana Tyler and Stephen Clark. That’s quite a lofty position for someone who graduated college only six years ago.
“Michael comes from a great lineage. His father is one of the most respected and well-known local anchors in the business,” says Ch. 2 news chief “Joltin’ Joel” Cheatwood.
“But Michael impressed us with his own talent. He’s a bright young man with a great future.”
Seidl on over
Jerry Kelly is teaming with powerhouse Manhattan agent Tony Seidl to turn Kelly’s “Honor For Sale” into a books-on-tape offering.
Ex-NYPDer Kelly will read the book, which tells of what really happened to the “French Connection” heroin snagged by the NYPD, and which has been optioned by Hollywood producer Robert Rehme.
Kelly, by the way, will read from “Honor For Sale” tonight at legendary literary haunt Rocky Sullivan’s (29th and Lexington).
This just in . . .
Fox has renewed “The X-Files” for an eighth season – with or without David Duchovny, who wants to do only a few more episodes.
UPN has picked up “The Hughleys,” discarded by ABC.
