In the summer, there’s no wardrobe choice as simple and refreshing as rolling out of bed and sliding on a tunic in the morning.

Sometimes they’re called kirtles or caftans – but whatever the name, tunics are suddenly everywhere.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Gloria Estefan and Kirsty Hume are all fans of the India-inspired tops.

“It’s easy and simple to wear,” says fashion designer Andrea Landau, whose bright tunics are made of crushed tulle and embellished with beading, tie-dye, a lot of gold embroidery and metallic threads.

“You can throw a tunic on over anything – white pants, jeans or a bikini,” she says. “And you don’t have to worry about a jacket. They’re really comfortable and cool.”

The Gap and H&M carry a variety of tunic tops for under $50, while Intermix sports a pricier selection, including a sexy Miguelina petal-pink tunic for $595.

“You can dress them up and down,” says Landau. “How you wear them changes the whole outfit.”

The best part? A tunic hides your winter belly.
