‘THE Green Butchers” is a flawed black comedy about two buddies who open a butcher’s shop in a small Danish town.
Customers are few until, through a bizarre series of events, they add “chicky-wickies” – actually marinated human flesh – to their offerings.
Overnight, unsuspecting folks are lining up around the block seeking the yummy new dish.
That means, of course, that the entrepreneurs have to find a new supply of human meat. Luckily, a porky real-estate agent nicknamed House Hans happens by.
The film would have succeeded if it had confined itself to this wacky, “Sweeney Todd”-ish premise.
But director-writer Anders Thomas Jensen insists on adding a love story and, worse, a messy subplot about one of the butchers’ twin brother, who has been on life support since a car accident.
You might say it’s a case of too many ingredients spoiling the meal.
