TRIBECA DRIVE-IN
THE Tribeca Film Festival will re-create the ’50s, with three days of screenings at a “drive-in”-style movie theater on lower Manhattan’s waterfront.
A giant movie screen will be installed at the end of Pier 25 in Hudson River Park, and festival sponsor General Motors will supply ’50s-era vehicles to create a drive-in setting.
The area will be open for pedestrian traffic only and seat up to 3,000 movie-goers.
The first screening, on May 8, will be the winning film of an online poll for the most romantic film set in New York City. (Vote at http://www.tribecafilmfestival.org.)
“Diner,” the classic buddy film set in 1959 Baltimore starring Kevin Bacon and Mickey Rourke, screens May 9.
The series will wind up on May 10 with a sing-along for “Grease.”
Screenings are free. Tickets will be distributed at the festival office at 387 Greenwich St. starting May 3, and at J&R Music World on Park Row two Days in advance.-
