Tyler Perry’s new prime-time soap, “The Haves and The Have Nots,” opened to the biggest series numbers in OWN’s two-year history.

His second OWN show, “Love Thy Neighbor,” did almost just as well.

That’s good news for Perry and OWN co-owner Oprah Winfrey, who lured Perry to her cable network with an exclusive production deal.

Still, the 1.7 million viewers that “Haves” averaged in its 9 p.m. premiere Tuesday night — which rose to 1.8 million viewers for its second episode which followed at 10 p.m. — was no match for the numbers that Perry’s other sitcoms were pulling in on TBS, his former cable home.

To whit, “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” averaged 2.4 million viewers, while “Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns” averaged nearly 2.5 million viewers on TBS.

A little less successful was “Tyler Perry’s For Better or
Worse,” which averaged only 1.7 million viewers on TBS.

“Haves” stars Tika Sumpter, Crystal R. Fox, Gavin Houston, Peter Parros, Angela Robinson and Tyler Lepley and revolves around a rich and powerful family in Savannah, Ga. — and the hired help who work in their mansion.

“Love Thy Neighbor” premiered a night later, on Wednesday, to 1.7 million viewers, which grew to 1.8 million viewers for its second episode at 10 p.m.

That series, set at a family-run restaurant, stars Patrice Lovely.

Perry’s OWN output is also slated to include a rebooted version of “For Better or Worse” and other shows that haven’t yet been announced.
