LOS ANGELES — An unknown Australian actress has nabbed a coveted role in the upcoming movie of “The Great Gatsby” opposite stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire.

Elizabeth Debicki will play golfer Jordan Baker, the love interest of Maguire’s Nick Carraway and best friend of Daisy Buchanan, played by Carey Mulligan, Deadline reported Wednesday.

Debicki grabbed the role straight out of school at the Victorian College of the Arts, beating out a slew of big Hollywood names.

“Elizabeth’s grasp of the material and her chemical connectivity to Tobey Maguire, in addition to her striking, athletic appearance, had us in a place where we were fully confident,” director Baz Luhrmann said, adding that she was “a discovery.”

DiCaprio plays the title character in the film due out next year.
