‘POP-UP Video,” VH1’s whimsical hit show, has spawned a made-for-TV movie.

While the music video format uses graphic “bubbles” with humorous factoids about music videos, the movie – still in development – will follow the adventures of a young man who wakes up one day with the same kind of “pop-up” powers.

Instead of applying his powers to music videos, he is bombarded with obscure facts about the people he encounters.

“Pops’ start appearing and help him navigate through a very difficult world,” said longtime “Pop Up” producer Paul Leo. Leo is leaving the show to focus on writing and producing the movie.

Leo said VH1 was originally planning to add pop-up bubbles to an existing movie like “Grease” or “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” but “there were too many legal complications.”

“Pop-Up Video” is now in its sixth season, but its future as a series remains unclear, a VH1 source said.

“Pop-Up Video’ is a hugely valuable part of our on-air personality,” VH1’s original programming chief, Lauren Zalaznick said. “I can’t see it going away.”
