WOLF’S NEW CLOTHES
SHELLEY Fireman is about to expand his West Side dining empire.
Sources say the restaurateur, whose stable of six eateries includes the Brooklyn Diner, Shelly’s New York, Redeye Grill and the sprawling Bond 45, is taking the former Wolf’s Delicatessen at 41 W. 57th Street (between Fifth and Sixth avenues), which shuttered last summer. Wolf’s, which moved a half-block away from a much larger space in 2000, never quite regained its deli mojo after the move from its longtime location.
Fireman, who is traveling, could not be reached for comment.
* David Burke, the executive chef/partner of the upscale davidburke & donatella, has two new eateries at Bloomingdale’s. “We just cut the ribbon this morning,” he told us yesterday. Burke, who says it’s hard enough to open one restaurant in one day, much less two, has fired up the stoves at Burke Bar Cafe, a full-service eatery that serves breakfast through dinner, with a full bar and a menu that includes scrambled eggs with shrimp and caviar, steak frites and wild mushroom macaroni and cheese with quail eggs.
Next door is a campy take-out place called Burke in the Box, which features 3-ounce mini-cheeseburgers, meatloaf barbeque sliders, pigs-in-blankets, dumplings and potato chip pizza. Diners can enter on the 59th street side, between Lexington and Third avenues, or through the bustling department store.
