There’s finally an answer for Markelle Fultz.

The Philadelphia 76ers point guard was diagnosed with neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome, according to his agent, who says the nerve injury affected Fultz’s shooting.

“Markelle has been diagnosed with neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome, a physical injury,” Raymond Brothers, Fultz’s agent, said in a statement to ESPN. “TOS affects nerves between the neck and shoulder resulting in abnormal functional movement and range of motion, thus severely limiting Markelle’s ability to shoot a basketball. TOS is treatable by physical therapy.”

According to the Sixers, Fultz will remain out indefinitely as he begins physical therapy immediately. The timetable for recovery is approximately 3-6 weeks.

It wasn’t that long ago Philadelphia brass was considering trading the former No. 1 pick, who has played just 33 games in his career, with 19 coming in 2018-19. The diagnosis should help clarify a path going forward for both sides, after several twists and turns in the saga.
