Knicks coach David Fizdale has another issue he’s dealing with other than trying to win with the NBA’s youngest squad.
Fizdale is trying to precariously hold together his trademark black wood-grain glasses that he broke five weeks ago.
Fizdale snapped the unique spectacles when dozing off as he pored over video. Knicks video coordinator Marcus Jones performed an emergency Gorilla Glue job.
The repair marks are visible and Fizdale is frantically searching for similar frames since the original “Eyebobs’’ have been discontinued.
“I was watching film and I fell asleep watching film before we played Charlotte in Charlotte,’’ Fizdale told The Post. “I rolled over on them and then things snapped on me. I woke up. I sent my ‘chief of staff’ Marcus to get some Gorilla Glue and we glued them up and they’ve been glued ever since. It’s so bad, but Gorilla Glue is serious business.’’
But he’s afraid his famous frames are in danger of breaking again with another mishap. Fizdale purchased the glasses before his last season with Miami, in 2015-16.
“I do need another pair,’’ Fizdale said. “I’m working on it right now. My wife [Natasha] is working on new ones as we speak. I got to get something different, but similar.’’
Fizdale’s eyewear became so popular when he was the head coach in Memphis, the Grizzlies staged a “Fizz Glasses” giveaway his first season.
As the story goes, Fizdale said he bought the funky frames from two women he and his wife met on an African safari. When they got back to the US, he visited their bakery/gift shop in Marin County near San Francisco.
“They were older women we met, the most unassuming people we never thought we’d remain friends with,’’ Fizdale said. “I see these glasses in their [store]. She gave it to me for 30 bucks. I put lenses in there and the rest is history.”
Fizdale admits he’s had some strange luck since getting to New York.
“It’s been a good year — I fell on my face [in a yard accident], broke my glasses and we’re 10-and-whatever,” he said.
