LAS VEGAS — Carmelo Anthony is not resentful Kevin Durant didn’t strongly consider New York, and the Knicks star said fans should lay off Durant for making the decision to join the superpowers of Golden State.

Anthony spent a late June weekend with Durant in New York before free agency began. Those get-togethers came amid the U.S. Olympic team gathering for its introductory press event in Harlem.

“I knew he was meeting with [Golden State],’’ Anthony said. “I knew they were on the schedule. Just talking to him and being around him, he’s happy and at peace with that decision. And everyone else should be at peace with that decision. If he’s at peace, everyone else should be at peace.”

Durant’s choice of joining the powerhouse Warriors, deserting the Thunder, and spurning up-and-coming clubs such as the Celtics, Clippers and Heat has created a firestorm.

The Knicks didn’t seem much in the picture, but it appears Anthony — rather than team president Phil Jackson and general manager Steve Mills — monitored the situation. Durant declined to meet with Jackson and Mills during his Hamptons summit — where he met with six clubs, including the Thunder.

The Knicks contend now a meeting was more about laying the groundwork for next season if Durant became a free agent again. It would be hard to believe Durant turning down a meeting if his close friend Derek Fisher still was head coach.

“I don’t think you guys know the backstory,’’ Anthony said. “I don’t want to get into all of that as far as not meeting with us or meeting with us. I don’t want to get into all those details. We talked. Me and him talked. We were in constant communication. We were together. And he made his decision. Anybody to judge that is wrong. He made a decision based on what he felt was good for himself at this time of his career and he made that.’’

Jackson instead took nearly $18 million of his cap space and filled the center position with Joakim Noah. And Anthony is not complaining.

“Energy, his level that he brings to the game is at an all-time high,’’ Anthony said. “Everyone knows it. His physical play. His demand and presence on the court will be much needed.’’
