ORLANDO – Here’s some bonus quotes on Danilo Gallinari from ESPN international draft analyst Fran Fraschilla that got sliced out of the newspaper’s version of the story.

Attending the pre-draft camp, Fraschilla believes the Knicks should take O.J. Mayo if he’s there. If he’s not, go with the Italian Stallion, says the former St. John’s coach, because there isn’t another PG worthy of a sixth pick. Mayo and the rest of the lottery probables will meet the press today. It will be my first chance to ask Mayo if he wants to be a Knick.

“If he’s sitting there at six, it’s almost great karma for the kid,’’ Fraschilla said. “He gets to play for somebody he’s known his whole life. The bright lights of New York is not going to effect this kid. The stuff he deals with in the Euroleague and Italian league in terms of people throwing things, yelling at him, he’s got a certain countenance about him and a maturity that goes beyond somebody that age.’’

Fraschilla believes having Gallinari play for the Knicks or Nets would be a romantic notion. The Nets are plotting a move to Brooklyn in 2010. “They’re going to love him in Bensonhurst,’’ Fraschilla said. “He’s going to get more free canolis than he can go through.’’

“(Gallinari) is mature beyond his years – to be the leading scorer on a team in the Euroleague, you have to be tough-minded,’’ Fraschilla said. “Where he plays is a full level above the Big East and ACC. He’d be one of the top three, four players in college basketball.’’
