The Bulls must not have liked the way Fred Hoiberg was tanking.
Chicago announced Monday morning it was firing its head coach after a 5-19 start to the season. The Bulls were not expected to contend this season, so the dubious record is not surprising, but Hoiberg overall has been a disappointment since being hired away from Iowa State in 2015 to take over for Tom Thibodeau.
Hoiberg had gone 115-155 in over three seasons with the team and made one playoff appearance, losing to the Celtics in the first 2017 first round. Jim Boylen will take over as head coach for the Bulls.
Hoiberg, 46, will be a popular candidate for any college openings that emerge.
