The Knicks will get to test out the newly transformed Madison Square Garden before Christmas.
The Knicks will face the Nets in a preseason game on Dec. 21 at the Garden at 7:30 p.m. to conclude a home-and-home exhibition exacta. The preseason opener for both teams will be Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Prudential Center in Newark. The league decided to stage the two preseason games based on geography.
Training camp will open Dec. 9 and the league announced officially the Knicks will open the entire NBA season by playing host to the Celtics on Christmas at noon. The game, telecast by TNT, will feature Marv Albert with Shaquille O’Neal making his broadcasting debut.
There already have been five college-basketball nights at the Garden, which has completed its first stage of renovation in the lower bowl. The entire 66-game Knicks schedule will be announced Tuesday on NBA TV.
