Chris Paul’s trade to the Lakers was over almost before it began.

NBA commissioner David Stern on Thursday voided the three-team deal that would have sent the All-Star point guard from the Hornets to the Lakers, The Post has confirmed.

No reason for Stern’s veto was immediately given.

Paul, who can opt out of his contract following the season, was to have gone to Los Angeles, with Lakers forward Lamar Odom to New Orleans and Lakers center Pau Gasol to Houston.

The Hornets would have received Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, Goran Dragic, and a 2012 first-round pick that Houston received from the Knicks.

The Knicks have wanted Paul for themselves but don’t have the assets available to acquire him via trade.

The Hornets have been fielding offers since the NBA lockout ended in an effort to acquire new players in exchange for the star guard rather than letting him walk in free agency.

Paul averaged 15.8 points and 9.8 assists last season.

Paul sent out one word to his Twitter followers: “WoW.”
