The Nets will once again be without Gerald Wallace and MarShon Brooks for Tuesday night’s game against the Cavaliers – and could be without both of them for Thursday’s early-season showdown against the Celtics on national television, as well.

Wallace and Brooks, both nursing sprained left ankles, were on the court for Tuesday’s morning shootaround. But after Wallace had a limited practice Monday and Brooks didn’t practice at all, Nets coach Avery Johnson had an easy decision to sit both of them against Cleveland.

“We’ll let those guys go again tomorrow,” Johnson said after shootaround. “Gerald’s not going to do much of anything today, but that’s a part of his treatment and rehab schedule. So then we’ll get him back out there tomorrow, and once we get him back out there tomorrow we’ll see how they recover on Thursday.”

But Johnson then added that it’s looking more like the weekend for both of them, meaning they would likely make their return against the Kings in Sacramento on Sunday, before opening the door again to Thursday being a possibility.

“Even though it’s looking more and more like the weekend, Thursday’s not out of the question,” Johnson said.

He added that it depended on how well Wallace and Brooks recover from practicing Wednesday.
