There appears to be one subject LaVar Ball won’t talk about.
The man who has truly thrived under the no-press-is-bad-press mantra is refusing to address a concerning issue in his new JBA league. Yahoo Sports reported that Ball has not responded to several interview requests about Edward Denard, the coach of the Chicago Ballers, who got into an altercation with a player during a game last week.
Denard shoved forward Montrell Dixson twice and then roughly pushed his forehead against the side of Dixson’s face with 1:24 left in a defeat to Seattle. Ball has been quiet on the issue with no apparent punishment coming for Denard with their next game Thursday. The only one to speak on the incident has been Dixson.
“I’ll cut the record straight as of now,” Dixson said in a Facebook post responding to the incident the following day. “I didn’t react like everybody wanted to because I know how to keep my composure when needed to. If I would’ve acted crazy I’d be the kid known for fighting his coach on national TV.”
Two of Ball’s sons, LiAngelo and LaMelo, are starring in the fledgling league, which has garnered little attention outside of this coach-player issue. LiAngelo is there after being virtually ignored during the NBA draft process, while LaMelo is there because his dad yanked him out of high school.
If you want LaVar to talk about the far-fetched (to be kind) possibility of them joining Lonzo with the Lakers, he’d blather on for 10 minutes. But apparently, if you want him to take on a serious — and easily fixable — issue, he clams up.
