The summer of LeBron is on. Let the speculation go into overdrive.

As expected, LeBron James will not opt-in to his $35.6 million option with the Cavaliers, as first reported by Cleveland.com, making the greatest player in the world a free agent again.

Now the question is where does James end up.

The Cavs, whom James led to the NBA Finals the last four years, can offer him a five-year deal worth $205 million, which is a year longer and worth more money than anyone else can give him. However, it remains to be seen if that matters to him at this point after losing to the Warriors in the Finals the last two seasons.

There has been talk James is intrigued by the thought of going out west to play for the Lakers, if he can get another All-Star like Paul George or Kawhi Leonard to join him. Of course, Leonard, who had one year remaining on his contract, would have to be dealt by the Spurs and it remains to be seen if Los Angeles has the pieces that would make sense for San Antonio. George, who is from Los Angeles and will be a free agent as he is expected not to opt-in to his option with the Thunder, seems like a more realistic possibility to play for the Lakers. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith reported on Thursday James had texted Kevin Durant about teaming up on the Lakers, though it seems unlikely Durant would leave Golden State.

James has also been linked to the 76ers, Rockets and Celtics as possible destinations, teams he would elevate into, at least, even footing with the two-time defending champion Warriors. Then again, he could always stay in Cleveland.
