Location, not the state of the franchise, may have precluded the Knicks from landing LeBron James three years ago.

At least, that’s what one writer is claiming.

Vanity Fair’s Lisa Robinson said on the “Brian Windhorst & The Hoops Collective” podcast that the self-described King wanted the Garden and the Knicks.

“We heard that LeBron wanted to come to New York. And I have really good sources about this, that he was thinking about coming to New York but that his wife wanted to be in Los Angeles, wanted the kids to go to school in Los Angeles, and that just kiboshed the whole thing,” Robinson said.

James wound up winning the title with the Lakers last year after being joined by Anthony Davis and is back in the playoffs with them this year, although as the seventh seed in the Western Conference. The Knicks, meanwhile, are the four-seed after a surprisingly successful regular season.
