As the Nets continue to prepare for their upcoming season in Brooklyn – the franchise’s first in New York after spending the past 35 years in New Jersey – the team was honored last week with an award by The Cabrini Mission Foundation for their philanthropic efforts in the community.

“I am very proud to be part of a professional sports team that is so committed to the community,” Nets CEO Brett Yormark said while accepting the Spirit of Cabrini Award on behalf of the team at the foundation’s annual dinner. “The Brooklyn Nets promise to be the most accessible team in the metropolitan area. Regularly visiting children in hospitals, holding basketball clinics and engaging with fans on a regular basis.”

“I am proud to say that as part of our commitment to the borough, The Brooklyn Nets will sell 2,000 tickets at $15 for every game so we can offer kids of all economic backgrounds the chance to see The Brooklyn Nets play.”

The Cabrini Mission Foundation supports programs and institutions that provide healthcare, education, and social services for women, children, immigrants, and the elderly.

“The support of the Nets organization to community service is a model which all professional sports franchises should emulate,” said Nick Vendikos, the president and CEO of the Cabrini Mission Foundation. “Just as Mother Cabrini herself assisted immigrants on the same Brooklyn streets that the Nets now call home, the organization has earmarked considerable resources to help those in need.”
