How much is Aaron Rodgers worth? To some linesmakers in Las Vegas, the answer is close to two touchdowns.
The Westgate SuperBook offered an early line for the Saints-Packers game this Sunday in Green Bay with Rodgers and the Packers tabbed as 6 1/2-point favorites. Then Rodgers, in the middle of a five-year, $110 million contract, broke his right collarbone this past Sunday against the Vikings and the odds reversed field, fast. As of Tuesday morning, the Westgate listed the Saints as six-point favorites, though that ticked back a bit to Saints minus-5 1/2, making it a 12-point alteration.
Bovada.lv is reporting that same number for the Rodgers Effect.
“With no starts under his belt and facing a red-hot New Orleans Saints team, it is tough to judge initially how effective [Rodgers’ fill-in] Brett Hundley will be,” said Kevin Bradley, sports-book manager at Bovada. “The look-ahead line with Rodgers starting was Packers as a six-point favorite. Without the two-time MVP, the Packers are now a six-point underdog at home to the Saints.”
Bovada also posted odds for the prospects of bigger-name replacements playing for the Packers this season. Bettors can get 2-1 on unemployed Colin Kaepernick, 5-1 on CBS analyst Tony Romo, 20-1 on Eli Manning in a trade from the Giants, and 50-1 on Packers legend Brett Favre to come out of retirement.
And the Packers have gone from 5-1 to win Super Bowl LII, which was second overall and first in the NFC, to 16-1, which puts them seventh overall. The Eagles are the new NFC favorite by a slight margin over the Seahawks at Bovada.
