The Bills did not screw up this easy decision.

Coach Sean McDermott announced Wednesday that Tyrod Taylor would return as the team’s starting quarterback Sunday against the Chiefs, days after he was benched for rookie Nathan Peterman.

“Tyrod Taylor will be our starting QB this week,” McDermott said. “It’s the right thing for our team. It was my decision, and it will always be about what’s best for our team.”

The “right thing” would have been sticking with Taylor, instead of going with the ill-prepared Peterman on Sunday against the Chargers’ ferocious defensive line.

Peterman attempted 14 passes, six went to Bills players, five went to Chargers defenders, and he was benched at halftime in the 54-24 embarrassment. Taylor had been respectable this season, completing 178-of-279 passes for 11 touchdowns against three interceptions.

The decision would have been more defensible if the Bills’ season was already in the scrap heap, but they are now 5-5 and tied with the Ravens for the second wild-card spot.
