The Cleveland Browns quarterbacks are an exclusive group.
Tyrod Taylor, acquired from Buffalo back in March, and Baker Mayfield, drafted first overall by the Browns this year, apparently parked an RV on the Cleveland practice facility campus at the start of training camp to serve as their own secret clubhouse, ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported.
Only quarterbacks are allowed inside. And they don’t have an official name yet.
The quarterbacks-only clubhouse grabs attention as the quarterback situation in Cleveland is the most pressing roster decision for the team, with both of the front-running contenders being acquired within the year.
Despite the Browns insisting that they won’t play Mayfield, coach Hue Jackson told reporters Thursday the 23-year-old is improving.
“[He] is progressing and improving. I saw some of that improvement today,” Jackson said. “Normally, he would flush out to the right side when pressure came. He stood in there, especially in our scoring-zone area, and made some plays. He stood there and threw the football. That was good to see, but we have to continue to do that. This is the first day.”
If Mayfield continues to improve, winning the starting spot over Taylor, who registered a 62.6 percent completion percentage and four interceptions in 2017, is a possibility.
Watching the quarterback battle unfold in Cleveland should make for interesting start to the NFL season – or maybe it’s already started inside the quarterback clubhouse.
