Cam Newton isn’t wasting any time.
Shortly after signing with the Patriots, their new quarterback was already working out with one of their receivers, Mohamed Sanu, according to a video posted on Instagram by The Sideline Hustle.
The new teammates both have a lot to prove. The 31-year-old Newton, a three-time Pro Bowler, was let go by the Panthers and was without a team until signing with the Patriots on Sunday. Due to shoulder and foot injuries the last two years, Newton’s production has gone down. This past season, he only appeared in two games.
Sanu, meanwhile, had just 26 catches for 207 yards and a touchdown reception in eight games with the Patriots last year after coming over in a trade with the Falcons, paltry numbers for the workmanlike wideout.
Both have been productive players throughout their careers, but they have faded of late. The Patriots are counting on their rebirths this season. A return to their usual outputs could be lucrative, with Newton and Sanu each approaching free agency at the end of the season — though the quarterback’s contract reportedly doesn’t prevent New England from applying a franchise tag for 2021.
