Dak Prescott is minding his own business.
The fourth-year quarterback was asked Thursday about the future of coach Jason Garrett, who has been on the hot seat for weeks. Dallas’ Week 17 matchup with the Redskins is the last regular-season game on Garrett’s contract.
“I think it’s the last game on mine as well, so I will be damned if I speak on anyone else’s future or their place,” Prescott told reporters.
On top of his contract reaching its conclusion, the Cowboys have been heavily rumored to be interested in finding a new head coach following Garrett’s latest disappointing season. The 7-8 Cowboys need a win on Sunday and an Eagles loss to the Giants in order to win the division and make the playoffs.
Garrett has served as the Cowboys head coach since 2010 after replacing Wade Phillips, amassing a record of 84-67 during his time in charge. He has fallen short in the playoffs, however, going 2-3 in three postseason trips.
Prescott, 26, is finishing his four-year rookie deal, and his impending free agency has been a source of endless debate amongst Cowboys fans all year. Before the season, it was reported Prescott turned down an offer worth $30 million a year from the Cowboys, instead wanting at least $40 million a year and to be the among NFL’s highest paid quarterbacks.
Russell Wilson is currently the league’s highest-paid signal-caller, earning $35 million a year.
Prescott has recorded 4,599 passing yards and 26 touchdowns through 15 games this season, both of which rank in the top-five in the league. He’s thrown 11 interceptions and owns a 97.4 passer rating.
The Cowboys have already secured stars DeMarcus Lawrence and Ezekiel Elliott to large contract extensions, and have significant money owed to offensive linemen Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick and La’el Collins for the near future. Wide receiver Amari Cooper is also an impending free agent.
