Highlights from the Jets practice on Monday:
Something good
Wide receiver Deontay Burnett had the catch of the day, a leaping grab of a Trevor Siemian pass on a fade route in the back-left corner of the end zone. The second-year wide receiver, who played at USC with Sam Darnold, had a “really good day,” coach Adam Gase said. Burnett received first-team reps when Jamison Crowder left late in practice with a left foot injury.
Something Bad
Tim White dropped a Davis Webb pass, leading to a Montrel Meander interception. White is one of many players battling for the No. 4 and No. 5 wide receiver spots on the roster.
Caught my eye
Quinnen Williams was impressive in one-on-one pass-rushing drills against offensive linemen. The first-round pick used his power to beat his man once and then his speed the next time. Backup outside linebacker Frankie Luvu had the most impressive move, bull-rushing Eric Smith into the turf and then leaping over him.
Injury Report
Crowder hurt his left foot late in practice and walked off under his own power with a slight limp. He was set to get an MRI exam and other tests, according to Gase.
OL Brent Qvale will not need season-ending surgery on his right knee, but will be out “a while,” Gase said. He was carted off the field on Sunday. TE Ryan Griffin (throat) didn’t practice, but he is expected to return on Wednesday. WR Jeff Smith (hamstring), TE Dan Brown (hamstring), LB Jeff Allison (shoulder), CB Jeremy Clark (hamstring) didn’t practice. Meander hurt his hamstring late in practice.
