Who said the Patriots had no fun?

It was Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson, but perhaps he wasn’t privy to former Patriots tackle Matt Light’s pranks on Bill Belichick.

Former Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest chatted with his old teammate Wednesday on NFL Network as the two laughed about a few of the stunts Light pulled on his notoriously grumpy coach during his 11-year tenure in New England.

One year during training camp, Light sneaked into Belichick’s office and replaced his computer mouse with one that would shock him when he touched it. He forgot about it until the next morning, when he walked past the office of Belichick’s assistant, Berj Najarian.

“Berj had no idea that I did this, but the minute I walk in, he says, ‘Light, you went a little too far on this one,'” said Light, who played for Belichick from 2001-2011, won three Super Bowls and was inducted into the Patriots’ Hall of Fame.

“So that did not go well. He lost all of the information on his computer. He was angry at me for about a month. I had to run a little extra in practice, but we made it through it.”

That didn’t stop Light from pulling off more pranks. There was another time a veteran asked him to get a football signed by everybody, so Light went to Belichick with the ball and an exploding pen.

“He looks at the pen funny and he hits it and it surprised the heck out of him,” Light said. “And I turned around and I’m like, ‘Oh come on, guys!’ like they set me up.

“We had a lot of fun. We definitely enjoyed our time in New England.”

While everyone involved can laugh about it now, it may not have been so simple back in the day.

“My wife, on a regular basis, would say, ‘Honey please, please don’t do that, he’s going to fire you this time. He’s going to cut you and you’re not going to have a job,'” Light said.
