Seeing Tom Quinn on the field, instructing players Wednesday, was jarring, considering Quinn was part of the Ben McAdoo coaching staff that was almost entirely fired after last season. Quinn is back, serving as an assistant special-teams coach. Thomas McGaughey, the special-teams coordinator hired by Pat Shurmur, is undergoing some health issues and the Giants added Quinn to aid McGaughey and Anthony Blevins, the special-teams assistant.

“Tom was in town and available and is back assisting us.’’ Shurmur said. “Outstanding coach, was in town and wanted to help the Giants. T-Mac is running things and he’ll have two assistants.’’

Quinn, brought to the Giants by Tom Coughlin in 2006, served as the special-teams coordinator from 2007 through the 2017 season.

The addition of LB Connor Barwin, signed this week, gives the defense something it needs — an experienced pass rusher. To make room on the roster for Barwin, TE Kyle Carter was waived.

“Very veteran guy and I think if you don’t know him, you’ll quickly get to see that he’s a true pro and we were fortunate he was available. And we felt like it was a smart move to add him to our roster,’’ said Shurmur, who worked with Barwin with the Eagles.

Olivier Vernon was the only Giants player to kneel for the national anthem last season. The NFL and the Players Association are attempting to come up with a resolution to the issue.

Shurmur previously stated he believes players should stand at attention for the national anthem.

“We’re going to talk about that as a team,’’ Shurmur said. “There’s going to be constant conversation with regard to that. I talked in the spring about my feelings with regard to the anthem — those have not changed.’’

Shurmur would not comment on McAdoo’s critiques of a few current Giants players in an interview with The Post.

“I know Ben, I have great respect for Ben, but no, I have no comments,’’ Shurmur said.

There was a reporting-day roster move, as DT Izaah Lunsford was signed and P Taylor Symmank was waived. Lunsford spent last season on the Packers practice squad. Lunsford played in 44 games, starting 14, at Bowling Green. … “Giants Training Camp Live’’ will return to MSG Networks beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Each episode will broadcast live from the Giants practice facility.
