The Giants had some NFC East company in the spending department Wednesday.

The Eagles were equally busy on the first day of the NFL’s free-agent signing period, adding a challenger to quarterback Sam Bradford in former Chief Chase Daniel along with one of the top guards available, former Texan Brandon Brooks, and three defenders — free safety Rodney McLeod, cornerback Ron Brooks and linebacker Nigel Bradham.

The deal for Daniel was stunning, as Philadelphia gave a quarterback with one career touchdown pass in six seasons a three-year deal worth a reported $21 million just a few weeks after handing Bradford a reported $36 million over two seasons.

The Daniel signing reunites him with new Philadelphia coach Doug Pederson, who was Kansas City’s offensive coordinator. A league source said Daniel would be given every opportunity in training camp to win the job from Bradford, who was shaky in his Philly debut last season.

Brandon Brooks, meanwhile, reportedly received a five-year, $40 million deal to jump from Houston and fill a major position of need at guard for the Eagles.

McLeod got a similar deal to Brooks’ (a reported $37 million over five years) to bolt the Rams and address another major hole in Philadelphia’s 30th-ranked defense.

McLeod was joined by Ron Brooks and Bradham, two former Bills who will reunite with new Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz from Schwartz’s recent stint with Buffalo.

The position of running back supposedly has been de-emphasized in the NFL, but you couldn’t tell that from Wednesday’s signing frenzy at that spot.

All four of the top free-agent runners are already gone after the Jaguars signed former Jet Chris Ivory, the Jets responded by signing former Bear Matt Forte, the Texans added former Dolphin Lamar Miller and the Buccaneers re-signed Doug Martin.
