Giants running back Brandon Jacobs on Monday was summoned for separate meetings with Tom Coughlin and general manager Jerry Reese, and afterward Jacobs — who had been rumored to be seeking a trade — admitted he did issue a demand.

It’s not what you think.

“The only demand I am making right now is of myself, to be the best player I can be and to help this team win,” Jacobs said today in a statement released by the team.

Jacobs has been frustrated with his role as a backup to Ahmad Bradshaw but says he didn’t ask to be moved. “I talked to Jerry and coach Coughlin yesterday,” Jacobs said. “Both of them asked to speak with me, I didn’t request a meeting with them. I have not demanded a trade and have no plans to demand a trade.”

Jacobs, as expected, didn’t get away unscathed for his helmet-tossing incident last Sunday night in Indianapolis. The NFL fined him $10,000 for what Jacobs said was an accidental fling of his helmet, which he explained got stuck to a sticky part of his leather glove when he was trying to fire the helmet to the ground near the Giants bench.

“I want to apologize one more time for accidentally tossing my helmet in the stands,” Jacobs said. “It was something that happened because I was frustrated with the game, and I had no business tossing my helmet in the first place, and I am thankful that nobody was hurt.”
