Jarvis Landry has some biting words for his former employer.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated, the Browns receiver said he’s grateful to be in Cleveland after leaving behind what he perceived to be a toxic environment in Miami.
“[In Miami] no one appreciated s–t,” Landry, 25, said. “Here it’s blue-collar, it’s hard-working. People that actually appreciate what you bring to the table.”
Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase with LandryGetty ImagesThe three-time Pro Bowler was traded to the Browns in March following four seasons in South Florida, signing a five-year, $75 million deal with $47 million guaranteed. Not only did the Dolphins allegedly offer less for their 2014 second-round pick — five years, $55 million with $27 million guaranteed — but Landry clashed with former head coach Adam Gase.
“When I’d go talk to [Gase] about it, he’d curse me out,” Landry said. “Why are you telling me how to do my job?’ It got to the point where the environment was just awful.”
With Landry out of Miami, the Dolphins brought in fellow receiver Danny Amendola, who inked a two-year, $12 million deal after five seasons with the Patriots. Like Landry, Amendola, 32, hasn’t minced words about his former boss, though he’s a fan of Gase’s.
“Coach Gase is one of the guys, one of the boys, and you want to fight hard for your boys. Back in New England, it’s almost like you’ve got a principal, the principal’s office and s–t like that,” Amendola said in July on Barstool Sports’ “Comeback SNZ” podcast.
He also said Bill Belichick could be “an a–hole sometimes.”
