BOCA RATON, Fla. – Former Jets wide receiver Jeremy Kerley agreed to a deal with the Lions on Monday, a source confirmed.

The Jets cut Kerley earlier this month after a 2015 season spent mostly on the bench. The 2011 fifth-round pick had 182 receptions as a Jet for 2,225 yards and nine touchdowns. His best season was 2012, when he had 56 catches for 827 yards and two touchdowns.

Kerley, who also was the Jets’ primary punt returner during his five years with the team, was an effective slot receiver when Rex Ryan was the team’s coach. Todd Bowles and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey never were fans of Kerley and he only started one game last year.

The Jets signed Kerley to a four-year, $16 million extension in 2014 under former general manager John Idzik. But GM Mike Maccagnan cut Kerley just before free agency started.
