The more than 71,000 fans at Super Bowl LI didn’t let Jerry Jones celebrate his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame for long.
Falcons and Patriots fans alike booed the Cowboys owner when his name was announced along with the other inductees during a break in the first quarter of Sunday night’s game, according to multiple reports.
Jones, 74, was honored with the rest of the Class of 2017 — running backs LaDanian Tomlinson and Terrell Davis, place-kicker Morten Andersen, quarterback Kurt Warner and defensive lineman Jason Taylor — on the field at NRG Stadium a day after the selections were revealed.
Jones has overseen three championship teams in Dallas since he bought the franchise in 1989, turning it into one of the most lucrative in NFL history. Jones’ controlling style of leadership has discouraged many football fans from warming up to him.
One player on the field Sunday can sympathize with Jones’ rejection. Tom Brady heard boos in his home state during last year’s Super Bowl between the Broncos and Panthers when he was honored with the other Super Bowl MVPs.
