The NFL released its 2008 schedule today, and the Jets open the season Sunday, Sept. 7 in Miami against the Dolphins of Bill Parcells.

Oddly, the Jets will close their season against the Dolphins in the season finale on Dec. 28. The Jets will open their home season at Giants Stadium against the Patriots on Sept. 14 in what will be their third consecutive home opener against their rivals from New England.

The Jets’ schedule includes four games on the West Coast, Sept. 22 at San Diego, Oct. 10 in Oakland, Dec. 7 in San Francisco, and Dec. 21 at Seattle.

The Jets, despite their 4-12 record in 2007, have two prime-time games, against both AFC Championship game teams. They play a Thursday night game against the Patriots in Foxborough on Nov. 13, and the game against the Chargers is a Sunday night game.

The Jets play the Titans in Tennessee for the third consecutive year. And, for the second year in a row, they play a home game against their former head coach, Herman Edwards, when the Chiefs come to New Jersey.

The Jets’ bye week comes early this year, on Oct. 5, after five games.
