Hero
Thanks to Golden Tate, the Lions didn’t even miss the hobbled and limited Calvin Johnson. Tate riddled the Jets’ struggling secondary with eight catches for 116 yards, including a 35-yarder to set up Detroit’s lone field goal. It was just the fourth 100-yard receiving day in 62 career regular-season games for the former Seahawk.
Zero
What a day for Geno Smith. When he wasn’t yelling an obscenity at a fan, the Jets’ beleaguered quarterback could usually be found throwing an incompletion or an interception or losing a fumble. Jets fans couldn’t be blamed for their multiple “MI-CHAEL VICK!” chants throughout the game.
Unsung hero
Former Jets safety James Ihedigbo had a big day against his old team, recording five tackles and forcing a Smith fumble by way of a sack at the Detroit 35 early in the fourth quarter with the Lions trying to preserve a 24-10 lead. Ihedigbo’s performance was even more impressive considering he had missed the first three games because of knee and neck injuries.
Key stat
5: The number of completions of 21 or more yards by Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford (including a 59-yard TD), and not one of them was to perennial All-Pro Calvin Johnson.
Quote of the day
“F*** you!”
— Geno Smith to a fan after the game (Smith later apologized).
