The Jets have signed free agent TE Richard Owens.

Owens was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Minnesota Vikings on May 3, 2004. He played in 39 games for the Vikings from 2004-06 before being waived; he was signed by the St. Louis Rams on Sept. 12, 2007 and appeared in 14 games.

Owens (6-4, 273) was out of the NFL in 2008 after he was released by the Rams on Aug. 31.

The Jets released TE Bubba Franks on Monday.
