Johnny Manziel’s comeback took a detour to a hospital.

The quarterback trying to make his way back to professional football was hospitalized in Texas on Monday night over a medication mishap, TMZ Sports first reported.

Manziel confirmed the hospitalization and said it resulted from a reaction to an increased dosage of Lithium, which he takes for his bipolar disorder.

“It was a scary moment and I’m especially grateful for the staff at the hospital and all that they’ve done in the last 24 hours,” Manziel said on Instagram.

The free-agent quarterback was in Humble, Texas, for JMBLYA, a music festival, as well as a golf tournament that his former Texas A&M teammate Mike Evans hosts.

Manziel hasn’t played pro football since flaming out of the NFL after the 2015 season. The former Brown, with red flags including domestic violence allegations, is trying to rehabilitate himself and could be headed to the CFL. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats currently hold the rights to negotiate with the Heisman Trophy winner.
