Landon Collins wasn’t the first highly touted defender Dave Gettleman decided not to bring back with the franchise tag as the price.
The Panthers, with Gettleman as general manager, shockingly rescinded star cornerback Josh Norman’s franchise tag before the 2016 season. Norman then signed a five-year, $71 million deal with the Redskins and will now be teammates with Collins.
“In ‘Gettleman’ WE Trust (All-DBs) securing the 💰🤑💰,” Norman tweeted after news of Collins agreeing to a six-year, $84 million deal with Washington spread.
Norman was one of the players who was seemingly pleased when the Panthers decided to let Gettleman go after that 2016 season.
