Leonard Fournette showed up at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis at 240 pounds, five pounds heavier than his playing weight at LSU and the heaviest of any running back at the combine.
What everyone, including the Jets, wanted to know was how much the added weight would affect his performance. The answer: Apparently not one bit.
On Friday, Fournette, who could be of interest to the Jets with the No. 6 pick in the NFL draft, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.51 seconds, the fastest time for a 240-plus-pound running back since 2003.
Fournette played in just seven games for LSU last year due to a lingering ankle injury and skipped the Citrus Bowl to get healthy for the draft process. He finished his last season with 1,034 yards and 10 touchdowns after going for 1,953 yards and 22 TDs the year before.
It wasn’t all positive for Fournette at the combine, though, as he recorded a vertical leap of 28.5 inches, the second-worst by a running back since 2000.
