Mark Sanchez is a play away from quarterbacking a division leader.

The Butt-fumbling Jets bust is getting another chance in the NFL. The Redskins have settled on the 32-year-old to step in to back up Colt McCoy, who is taking the starting job after Alex Smith’s brutal broken tibia and fibula, according to ESPN.

Sanchez apparently beat out at least NFL flameouts EJ Manuel and TJ Yates to be in the wings for a Washington squad that is controlling the NFC East but just had its season rocked.

Sanchez, who was suspended four games this season for violating the performance-enhancing drug policy, was last seen backing up in Chicago last season, and before that had stints with the Cowboys, Broncos and Eagles, all after four seasons with the Jets.

Sanchez, the fifth-overall pick in 2009, likely benefited from familiar faces in Washington. Redskins offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh was his quarterback coach with the Jets from 2009 to 2012 and offensive line coach Bill Callahan had the same job with the Jets from 2008 to 2011.

Washington will play in Dallas on Thanksgiving Day with first place in the NFC East on the line.
