Chris Godwin, Chris Carson and Tarik Cohen were among the most notable injuries during Week 3 of the 2020 NFL season. Here’s a recap of the biggest injuries to players across the league and how it could impact fantasy football:
Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (hamstring)
The star Buccaneers wideout suffered a hamstring injury during the third quarter of Sunday’s win over the Broncos. Arians told reporters after the game that the team will “wait and see” on Godwin. If so, Mike Evans — who has health issues of his own — and Scott Miller could see more targets.
Miller, a 2019 sixth-round pick, led the team with 83 receiving yards on three catches and should be worth an add in deeper leagues if Godwin is out.
Chris Carson, RB, Seattle Seahawks (knee)
Carson was injured late during Sunday’s game with a sprained knee. The injury happened on a nasty play in which Dallas defensive tackle Trysten Hill rolled over Carson’s left leg and twisted it. Hill surprisingly wasn’t called for a penalty for that play.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was not specific about the severity of the issue, so it remains unclear if Carson will miss any time. He finished the game with 14 carries for 64 yards and three catches for 12 yards. If he were to be limited or out, Travis Homer and Carlos Hyde would be next on the depth chart, neither of whom are particularly enticing starts.

Cohen left Sunday’s come-from-behind win over the Falcons after five total touches with what is suspected to be a season-ending ACL tear. He is set to undergo an MRI exam to confirm the team’s fears. Cohen’s potential absence could mean more targets and attempts for Cordarrelle Patterson. Cohen, the versatile 25-year-old, is often utilized as a pass-catcher in change-of-pace situations.
Dallas Goedert, TE, Philadelphia Eagles (ankle)
Goedert suffered an ankle injury during the first quarter of the Eagles’ tie with the Bengals. He will undergo further imaging this week to determine the extent of the issue but is expected to miss time, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Goedert’s injury is the latest blow to the Eagles’ pass catchers, who were already lean going into the week. Zach Ertz finished with seven catches on 10 targets for 70 yards, and receiver Greg Ward finished with eight catches on 11 targets for 72 yards and a touchdown. Both Ertz and Ward could see additional opportunities with Goedert sidelined.
Russell Gage, WR, Atlanta Falcons (concussion)
Gage was an intriguing start for fantasy with Julio Jones inactive with a hamstring injury. He suffered a potential concussion, however, and was ruled out for return after reeling in two of three targets for 26 yards.
Calvin Ridley was targeted heavily and caught five of 13 targets for 110 yards. Second-year undrafted free agent Olamide Zaccheaus also saw a decent target share and caught four of six targets for 41 yards. He could be a possible deep league add if Gage and Jones are both sidelined.
Diontae Johnson, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers (concussion)
Johnson also suffered a concussion in the second quarter of Sunday’s win over the Texans. After the game, the 2019 third-rounder tweeted that he was, “fine,” but he will have to pass through the concussion protocol before returning.
Johnson finished with zero catches on two targets and a rush for 9 yards. If he were to miss time, 2020 second-round pick Chase Claypool could be worth an add in this pass-happy offense.
John Brown, WR, Buffalo Bills (calf)
Brown was sidelined during the second half of Sunday’s game against the Rams with a calf injury. He had already been limited with a foot issue heading into the Week 3 matchup. There were no updates as to the severity of Brown’s issue but if it is serious, Cole Beasley, Gabriel Davis and Stefon Diggs would stand to see additional targets.
Jordan Reed, TE, San Francisco 49ers (knee, ankle)
The oft-injured tight end was banged up twice during Sunday’s win over the Giants. He left the game initially with an ankle issue and returned, then left again with a knee injury. He had been subbing in for George Kittle, who is nursing a knee injury. Next on the 49ers’ decimated depth chart would be Ross Dwelley and Charlie Woerner.
Michael Pittman Jr., WR, Indianapolis Colts (ankle)
Pittman had the opportunity to step up with Parris Campbell on injured reserve with a PCL/MCL injury, but he left during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Jets with an ankle injury. It’s unclear if the injury is serious, but the Colts will have to turn to T.Y. Hilton, as well as Zach Pascal, Daurice Fountain and Ashton Dulin for targets.
