The NFL has moved up its planned meeting to next Wednesday with the New York-based Native American tribe that is leading the charge to change the Redskins’ nickname.

The league originally planned to sit down with representatives of the Oneida Indian Nation to hear their concerns on Nov. 22, but NFL officials earlier this month asked the tribe’s official representative, Ray Halbritter, to make it sooner.

The meeting is set for Manhattan, but league officials remain vague about whether commissioner Roger Goodell will attend. Goodell has defended the Redskins name, but has softened recently, saying the NFL should listen to the mascot’s critics.
