During NBC’s pre-game show Peter King reported that Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum told Brett Favre he could take months if necessary to decide on his future with the team.
King said that Tannenbaum talked with Favre for the first time this offseason and told the 39-year-old quarterback not to “rush” his decision.
NJ.com talked to a Jets spokesman, who denied the report. During the introductory press conference for Rex Ryan, Tannenbaum said he hoped to have some indication of Favre’s plans before the scouting combine begins Feb. 18.
And ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Favre “could give word to the Jets this week about his future, perhaps by Friday.”
King and Mortensen are two guys that Favre has confided in the past, so the conflicting reports are a surprise.
Last season the Favre-retirement drama lasted until August, when he was dealt from the Packers to the Jets.
