Dallas-area sports talk radio host Bob Sturm made a risky proclamation about the Cowboys in advance of the NFL Draft 2022.

“If they take Tyler Smith in Round 1, I will submit my retirement papers,” Sturm tweeted, in response to a collection of mocks in which ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. projected Smith to the Cowboys.

This tweet was sent Thursday morning. Fast forward to Thursday evening?

Announcer voice: With the 24th overall pick in the NFL Draft, the Cowboys select Tyler Smith, left tackle, Tulsa.

“It was a great run, guys. Love you,” Sturm tweeted after a follower told him he couldn’t send the retirement tweet without repercussions.

Sturm proceeded to tweet two videos he’d seen of Smith getting beaten defenders.

Sturm co-hosts afternoon drive for 1310 The Ticket, and covers the Cowboys for The Athletic.

It’s presumable that he will not follow through on his retirement threat, but what a story it would be if he did just that.
